Day 1: PHONG NHA KE BANG TO KHE SANH COMBAT BASE
Our tour begins in Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park, from where we will ride along the western Ho Chi Minh trail to Khe Sanh. This stretch of road is one of our favorites and is steeped in history, as it was used by the Vietcong to supply the south during the war.
Our journey will take us along the banks of the Son River, through rice paddies, farmland, and past local farmers. Along the way, you will learn about the background of the Phong Nha Ke Bang national park and the West Ho Chi Minh trail, a remote and less-traveled area.
The first 100 km of our ride will take us through old-growth jungle, with stunning waterfalls and beautiful landscapes. We will stop at the Van Kieu ethnic hill tribe village to observe how these people survive in one of the most remote places in Vietnam.
After lunch at another village, we will continue to ride another 100 km south to the town of Khe Sanh, following the legendary Ho Chi Minh trail. As we travel through the tops of mountain ranges and fantastic valleys, we will make stops at historic relics of the Vietnam War, including the Khe Sanh combat base. We will then check into a hotel in town and celebrate our first fantastic day of adventure with a cold beer.
Day 2: KHE SANH TO HUE CITY VIA DMZ
On the ride from west to east to Hue, we will travel along Highway 9 and pass famous Vietnamese war sites such as Dakrong Bridge, Rock Pile, and the Doc Mieu base.
During our journey, we will visit the Truong Son National Cemetery, which is the biggest cemetery in Vietnam, to pay our respects to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the war. After crossing the former border between North and South Vietnam at the 17th parallel, we will arrive at the Vinh Moc Tunnel. The villagers dug these tunnels to move their village 23 meters underground to survive during the war.
We will stop for lunch at Cua Viet Beach, where you can cool off with a swim. Then, we will drive along the coastline and arrive in Hue around 4:30 pm.
Day :3 HUE TO HOI AN VIA HAI VAN PASS
In the morning, our first stop is a fishing village where you can go to Nhi Ho waterfall and wade in the rock pools.
Next, we will stop for photos at Lang Co Beach before traveling over the Hai Van Pass. “Hai Van” means “Ocean – Cloudy Pass,” and when you cross the top of the pass, you are surrounded by clouds on one side and have stunning ocean views on the other.
Afterward, we will travel through Danang and stop at the famous China Beach, known for its fine white sand. Our final stop is at the Marble Mountains, which are five marble outcrops topped with delicate pagodas. From there, we will head to Hoi An.
